Video Premiere: An Animated Offering from Pieta Brown for “Freeway”

The current issue of Relix includes a review of Freeway, the new album from Pieta Brown. In the review we note, “Pieta Brown is the daughter of singer-songwriter Greg Brown, but she left behind his ironic approach to the craft to develop a sincere, emotionally vulnerable style all her own. Along the way, she’s collected an impressive array of fans, including Ani DiFranco, who signed Brown to her Righteous Babe label.” Today we are premiering the official video for the title track. As for the song itself, Brown reflects, “’Freeway’ is fun to sing.  Not meant to be precious in any way. We all know that freeway feeling….suspended for a minute between here and there…I sure get a lot of calls from friends on the road these days!  We recorded this song in just a couple takes…right after I said something like ‘you know…it’s kind of a love song but it’s kind of a “fuck it”’ song.”

The dazzling video that accompanies the song appears below and Brown adds, “I love the experimental animated video filmmaker Geoff Marslett made! – It’s all the things : experimental, fun to watch, unexpected, non-linear, funny…and also touching.  Check out his animated movies – phantom 52 and MARS!”

Freeway is now available.
