Watch Trampled By Turtles’ Full Performance on KEXP

Minnesota-based bluegrass outfit Trampled By Turtles released their latest studio album, Life is Good on the Open Road, this past spring, marking the band’s return from a then-indefinite hiatus, and in late June, the group stopped by KEXP in Seattle to play a short set of cuts from the new record and talk about getting back together after some time off.
“The hard part is figuring out when to do that before the thing implodes,” lead singer and guitarist Dave Simonett says about the hiatus. “Because as long as things are going well, it’s hard to stop, but if you wait too long, it might be irreparable.”
During the session, Trampled run through Open Road tracks “The Middle,” “I’m Not There Anymore,” ripping lead single “Kelly’s Bar” and the title track, and Simonett speaks bit about his solo project Dead Man Winter, and what it was like recording at Minnesota’s Pachyderm Recording Studio and how the storied, forested setting influenced the music. Bassist Tim Saxhaug also chimes in about the album, saying, “We just found that in this, more than any other album, our personalities were more defined in there. It felt like the most natural putting forth of our personalities on an album.”
