Ten years ago today marks a particularly important day in the musical career and life of Trey Anastasio, as he began his comeback after a 2006 arrest with a surprise appearance at Dave Matthews Band’s summer tour stop in Saratoga Springs, NY for one of his staple tunes with the band–“Lie in Our Graves.”

Matthews reflected on that night in a 50th anniversary documentary about the New York venue. “I love Trey’s playing but that particular night was one of the most beautiful, eloquent times I’ve ever heard him play,” he said. “He hadn’t played for a while. He just came out that night and it was one of those really magical moments.” 

Anastasio’s career with DMB stretches back to 1993 when the two bands used to tour together. Along with Anastasio’s time in Dave Matthews & Friends, he’s made a number of appearances at DMB shows, with the last coming on this night in 2007.
