This Friday, February 23, jazz-funk trio Soulive will unveil their new EP Cinematics Vol. 1, marking their first new music released in six years, and today we premiere the closing track from the collection, the breezy “Waves.”

“The one thing I love about many of the Soulive albums we have made is the way they come to an end with something nice and mellow, which makes you want to turn around and start all over again,” explains drummer Alan Evans. “When Kraz [guitarist Eric Krasno] showed up to the studio, he and I were just sitting around talking and he started playing an idea he had, which ended up becoming the closing tune, ‘Waves.’ From the second he started playing, I knew that if we got around to recording it, we would have something special on our hands. I’m glad we did get around to it, because ‘Waves’ is certainly a very special track on a special record.”

Soulive, which also features keyboardist Neal Evans, plan to continue the Cinematics series with more EPs later this year, and the band has a few performances slotted in the coming weeks, including a two-night stand at Pennsylvania’s Ardmore Music Hall on March 2–3.
