Rene Lopez first gained renown as a compelling, commanding live presence in the New York scene in the late 80s with his band The Authority. He has since performed recorded and performed in a number of projects with a soul/funk/Latin flair. This past September he launched a “Jam of the Month Club” offering new music for free via SoundCloud. Today we share his latest track–the sixth in his series–a collaboration with George Porter Jr and Ivan Neville. Lopez tells Relix, “I wrote and recorded this song in Mike Napolitano and Ani DiFranco’s house in New Orleans in a couple of days in January. I was lucky that George Porter Jr and Ivan Neville were in town and into lending their magic to my tune.. It was a special moment.. New Orleans always brings out the funk in me.”
