Song Premiere: Spirit Family Reunion “Would You Would or Would You Won’t?”

Brooklyn-based folk outfit Spirit Family Reunion will release their third studio album, Ride Free, on Aug. 9, following up 2015’s Hands Together, and today we premiere the title track from the new effort.

“This is one of the first songs we recorded in the sessions for this new album,” singer-songwriter Nick Panken tells Relix. “We were just getting settled into the room together without much of a plan, and through this song we found the sort of loose cohesion that became a common denominator throughout the record. The first line was inspired by returning home from tour, often late at night after the final show, when everyone’s been dropped off and I’d be searching for a place to park the van on the edge of the morning. From there, the song drifts into a more abstract place, written almost stream of consciousness with a tune in mind and a pen in hand.”

Listen to the breezy “Would You Would or Would You Won’t?,” ” below. Spirit Family Reunion will support the album with a run of August tour dates, starting with a record-release show in Annandale on Hudson, NY, followed by a Brooklyn gig the following day.
