Premiere: Randall Bramblett Covers “Devil’s Haircut” (Beck)

June 22, 2017

Randall Bramblett‘s Juke Joint at the Edge of the World will be released on July 7 by New West Records. This is the eleventh album from the multi-instrumentalist who has worked with Widespread Panic, Steve Winwood, Bonnie Raitt and many others over the course of his career. Bramblett explains that on the forthcoming record, which is now available for pre-order, “The music is rooted more in the soul and R&B dance music I grew up listening to and playing. The songs will take you places that make you dream and dance.”

Today we premiere the lyric video for his version of Beck’s “Devil’s Haircut.” Bramblett tells Relix, “”‘Devil’s Haircut’ was one of my favorite Beck songs. In all my time making solo records, I’ve never done a cover. I just thought it would be fun to try one this time. Believe me, I went through a ton of songs before deciding on this one. The lyrics don’t make much sense but there’s a feel of disaster looming and a sense of humor about it. I can relate to that,” explains Bramblett. “It’s also funky with the Bernard Purdie drum samples, and I figured I could add some R&B horns to it. Somehow it all works.”

The album’s track listing and Bramblett’s upcoming tour dates appear below the video.
