Premiere: Glass Pony Look Back at ‘War of the Worlds’ Hysteria 71 Years Later

On October 30, 1938 Orson Welles narrated and directed a version of the H.G. Wells novel The War of the Worlds for the CBS radio network. The results reportedly instilled hysteria across pockets of the United States, who were unaware of the fictional nature of this broadcast. Albany-based band Glass Pony uses this event as the subject of the opening track on the group’s forthcoming self-titled debut album. To mark the 71st anniversary of this event, we are premiering the song below.

Glass Pony drummer/vocalist Chanda Dewey explains, “’Grover’s Mill 1938’ is a concept song based on the War of the Worlds radio broadcast. The lyrics and music blend together to create a bigger picture, a story that starts off as a typical day and then morphs into a dark terror. The music rides along with the lyrics to sonically tell the story of a small town in belief that they are about to be attacked by aliens.”

Dewey and her bandmates Eddie Hotaling (guitar/vocals), Jeff Picarazzi (bass/vocals) and Greg Pittz (guitar/vocals) will celebrate the release this Saturday, November 2 at the Parish Public House in Albany.
