Mickey Hart, Pretty Lights Collaborator Michal Menert Shares New Song
On November 16, Michal Menert will release From The Sea, a new record with his band the Pretty Fantastics. Menert, who first gained notoriety for his work with Pretty Lights, later co-produced Mickey Hart’s 2017 album RAMU and has worked with drummer on the palette of sounds that Hart creates with Dead & Company.
This is the first recording in which Menert and his band collaborated on the songwriting, which shares some thoughtful meditations on personal choice and its larger implications. In reflecting on the songs that appear on the album, Menert offers, “We too often move through life on autopilot. When we stop and look back, it’s all a blur. This record is an exploration of how seemingly inconsequential moments ripple through time and haunt us. I want to help people realize that they’re not the only ones confused about how this is all supposed to go down. It’s universal.”
Today we premiere “Summer’s Gone,” which Menert explains, “came from dealing with the realization that those closest to us may not be what they project. It’s about letting go of what you thought was real, but has revealed itself as the contrary. It’s facing the facts, both in yourself and others, and moving forward onto the next season of life.”
