Listen to the New Solo Album From Spinal Tap Bassist Derek Smalls in Full

Matt Inman on April 5, 2018

We’ve tried to keep you up-to-date on the re-emergence of legendary Spinal Tap bassist Derek Smalls (a.k.a. Harry Shearer’s character from the 1984 mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap), because it’s a wonderful thing, and now the wait is over, as Smalls Change (Meditations Upon Ageing), Smalls’ album that will be released on April 13 (apparently Smalls’ 75th birthday—Shearer’s own 75th is December 23), is streaming in full over at NPR Music

As previously noted, the star-studded album features the “veteran musician” teaming up with veteran musicians like members of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters and Snarky Puppy, Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen, David Crosby, Paul Shaffer, Keith Richards guitarist Waddy Wachtel, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Richard Thompson and more, plus The Hungarian Studio Orchestra and actress Jane Lynch, who has starred with Shearer in several Christopher Guest movies.

Listen to the rock-and-roll summit here, and see the full tracklist and videos for album tracks “Smalls Change” and “It Don’t Get Old” below.
