John Mayer Goes Full-Hendrix in “Gravity” Video

September 26, 2013

John Mayer’s Born and Raised World Tour rolled into the Rock in Rio Festival last weekend. The guitarist, currently in support of two albums (Paradise Valley was released August 20), performed a 75-minute set that included substantial fan interaction as well as this stellar performance of “Gravity,” the hit from 2006’s Continuum. About halfway through his guitar solo, after a quote of Hendrix’s “Castles Made of Sand,” Mayer throws his guitar to the ground and experiments with some alternate methods of playing. Widely considered the best live song in Mayer’s expansive catalog, “Gravity” brought the show to a close.
