Hot Buttered Rum Played The National Anthem Before the San Francisco Giants Collapsed Against the Cubs

October 12, 2016

Last night in San Francisco, the Giants trotted out their official bluegrass band to serenade the crowd with the National Anthem prior to Game 4 of the National League Divisional Series between the hometown Giants and Chicago Cubs. Things were going well for the Giants until a four-run ninth inning for Chicago foiled their early celebration. Cubs closer Aroldis Chapman came in to hurl balls of fire at Giants hitters in the bottom of the ninth, striking out the side and ending the team’s season in a flash.

The Cubs are probably going to win the World Series this year, their first in 108 years (Yes, you read that correctly) and something that’ll make quitefew musicians happy along the way. But this is about mourning the Giants’ failure and Hot Buttered Rum’s sadness that surely followed.

Let us remember happier times, though, before the game as the band kicked off the proceedings with our nation’s anthem.
