Day Four

“Ladies and gentlemen…this next group of musicians have just been nominated for an American Blues Music Award. They’ve been touring all over the world. This is their first show in Australia. Please welcome Royal Southern Brotherhood !”

That was the announcement before the Sydney show. It was packed to the gills. We hadn’t played together in a month. As soon as the first notes of “Fired Up” started it felt like we had played together the previous night. Instant vibe.

So far every single Australian that I have met has such a warm and peaceful vibe. From random people to the ones we are working with down here. This crowd already knew the songs and were very gracious. We ripped through a two hour set and right away I could tell that Sydney loves the arts and were very happy to host us. They danced, sang along and hung on to every note.

Afterwards we met the fans and hung out a bit. A certain fan, Mick, said he’d waited a few years to see me play and even brought my son a gift. Yonrico played his ass off. Charlie Wooton blew people’s minds with his Jaco tinged bass solo. Mike Zito and I had some interwoven dual leads that felt as if we’ve played together for 20 years, and Mr. Cyril Neville sang like his ass was on fire.

The next morning we flew to Melbourne for the next show. Once here, we all went out for sushi and had a great time sharing jokes and stories. This band is a family. All kinds of cats from different areas at different ages, but “Brotherhood” is very apropos. We have a lot of love in this band and genuinely love to hang out together.

It’s now close to 8am in Melbourne. I’m staying in a swank apartment on the 25th floor of a downtown skyscraper and about ten massive hot air balloons are gliding past the other skyscrapers at sunrise. A spectacular site. Can’t wait for the show tonight !

G’day mates !
