Dave Matthews Remembers Trey Anastasio’s SPAC Comeback in 2007: “One of those really magical moments”

In a special 50th anniversary documentary about Saratoga Performing Arts Center, a portion of the video (begins around the 42-minute mark) is dedicated to Dave Matthews Band, a band who has graced the main stage 35 times since their first stop in Saratoga in 1994.

In what has become a pilgrimage for DMB fans over the years, the SPAC run has turned itself into a destination event, producing standout moments the most notable of which came in 2007, when Trey Anastasio made his return to the stage following his December ’06 arrest to sit in with the group.

“I love Trey’s playing but that particular night was one of the most beautiful, eloquent times I’ve ever heard him play,” Matthews says in the video of his old Dave and Friends bandmate. “He hadn’t played for a while. He just came out that night and it was one of those really magical moments.”
