Dave Matthews took over Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night with not only a performance but also an interview with the host where they jumped right into Matthews’ energetic live show with his band, which is taking the year off.

Colbert recounted that he saw DMB at the North Charleston Coliseum in his native South Carolina and noticed the crowd enjoyed singing along to the lyrics. “I get paranoid on stage,” Matthews said of his worry about whether or not people are enjoying the show.

The conversation shifted to the Fyre Festival disaster, as Matthews offered up his humorous thoughts on the terrible event. “I don’t want to belittle suffering, but I do hope Fyre Festival goes down as almost as fantastic as Woodstock,” he joked. “It is one of the greatest things that ever happened–I mean, it’s terrible. I know it’s terrible.” “That kind of disappointment is just…”

Then Matthews jumped to the performance stage for a song with Tim Reynolds and a string quartet as they delivered the newer DMB cut “Samurai Cop” in a beautiful acoustic performance. Matthews and Reynolds will return to the road on May 30 when their summer run takes them to Jacksonville, FL.
