Bob Dylan’s New Guitarist: Duke Robillard
When Bob Dylan opened his current tour on Friday night in Buffalo, he welcomed a new face to his band. Guitarist Charlie Sexton has stepped away and Duke Robillard is now in the fold. Robillard is a Rhode Island native who co-founded Roomful of Blues back in 1967. He remained with that group through 1990 (in 2005 he recorded Duke Meets the Earl with Ronnie Earl, who took over from Robillard as lead guitarist in Roomful before stepping out on his own as well). Robillard then joined The Fabulous Thunderbirds for a few years before focusing his efforts on the Duke Robillard Band. The group’s next album, Independently Blue, is set for release tomorrow. Here are a few clips of Robillard from over the years that demonstrate his fire and fluidity.
