Album Premiere: The Gibson Brothers ‘Mockingbird’
After producing their own records for many years, the Gibson Brothers decided to draw on a new perspective for their next record. So Leigh and Eric Gibson enlisted The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach and Fergie Ferguson (Johnny Cash, John Prine) to produce Mockingbird. While the two took home Entertainer of the Year honors from the International Bluegrass Music Association in 2012 and 2013, they have long since expanded their palette, and the reference points they site for the new album include The Eagles, Bob Seger, Tom Petty as well as Emmylou Harris and Waylon Jennings. Mockingbird affirms that the Gibson Brothers expansive tastes and intents, via 10 crackling originals and a cover of R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts.” The results encompass country, soul and Laurel Canyon folk-rock.
Here is a YouTube playlist of the entire record, which will be released this Friday November 9 and is now available for pre-order. The Gibson Brothers will tour well into 2019 in support of Mockingbird.
