Summer Stars: MiM0SA

Our Summer Stars series features a variety of groups out there making the rounds on the festival circuit. Today it’s MiM0SA who will appear on Thursday at Bonnaroo. Here’s a link to all of our Summer Star pieces which we will post over the coming weeks.

Just like the champagne and orange juice cocktail that shares his name, MiM0SA’s music is refreshing, uplifting and packs a kick. Hailing from the Bay Area, MiM0SA – whose real name Tigran Mimosa – uses Ableton Live and a mixer to craft layered, sonic soundscapes influenced by hip-hop beats, psytrance, wobbly bass drops and the emerging West Coast glitch scene. “I’m steering away from aggressive tones,” says MiM0SA, “but at the same time trying to find different avenues to get the same crowd response that a big bass drop would get.” Although this past fall was his first headlining tour, the eclectic FUTURE TRiLL DJ performed at high-profile venues such as New York City’s Irving Plaza, Burlington, Vt.‘s Higher Ground and Denver’s Gothic Theatre – with stops at Bonnaroo, Electric Frorest and Wakarusa slated for this summer. MiM0SA recently founded his own record label False Idol Musik, and released his debut LP Sanctuary, which leans more toward two-step U.K. dubstep and drums and bass than the forceful beats on his earlier albums.
