Summer Stars: Elephant Revival

Jennifer Mergott on July 14, 2011

Today we conclude our Summer Stars series with this look at Elephant Revival…

Having just come off of a brief stint at the SXSW music conference, Elephant Revival is excited to continue touring with festival appearances scheduled at High Sierra and the Northwest String Summit. The band’s five members – Daniel Rodriguez, Bonnie Paine, Dango Rose, Sage Cook and Bridget Law – officially began playing together in 2006, splitting their time between Colorado and Oklahoma.

The band’s multi-layered musical style comes from the various musical breeding grounds of its players. “We have elements from many different styles of music,” says Rose. “The cohesive quality comes from the honor and respect we hold for each other and our fans.”

Its sophomore album, Break in the Clouds, will be released early summer and features what one of the group’s hometown journalists called “transcendental folk” – a description the band has since championed.

Aiding to Break in the Clouds’ sonic exploration is the band’s choice of instruments – ranging from djembe and electric banjo to a musical saw.

“We create in service to the music,” says Rose. “We do not control what it is or what it will become.”

Appearing at: Desert Rocks, High Sierra, 4 Peaks, Northwest String Summit and more.
