Dave Matthews Band and South Africa have always been directly connected through both blood and musical influence. The bandleader calls Johannesburg home and many of Matthews’ early compositions draw directly on his experiences in South Africa. So it may surprise some to know that the band has never taken the stage in South Africa until 2014.

With a short run scheduled for December, the band played shows in Johannesburg and Cape Town, inviting old friends and longtime collaborators Vusi Mahlasela and Hugh Masakela to perform with the group. To commemorate the special shows, DMB released this two part documentary, highlighting their time in South Africa with Hugh and Vusi.
