Watch Widespread Panic’s John Bell and Jimmy Herring Team Up with Gov’t Mule on “Cortez the Killer”

August 14, 2017

Gov’t Mule closed out a guest-filled affair at Peach Music Festival this weekend with a collaboration featuring two of their closest collaborators over the years.

Widespread Panic guitarists John Bell and Jimmy Herring emerged for a sprawling, bluesy rendition of the Neil Young classic “Cortez the Killer,” a popular cover in the Mule canon to feature additional guests, as they’ve covered the song with the likes of The London Souls, Eric Krasno and Blackberry Smoke. Warren Haynes also famously covered the tune with Dave Matthews Band at Central Park in 2003 and has a number of times before and after that.
