Video Premiere: Gregg Allman “My Only True Friend”
Gregg Allman’s final musical act, Southern Blood, will arrive on September 8 as the famed musician’s final recordings will be unveiled to the world following his passing at the age of 69. Today, we premiere the official video for Allman’s lead single “My Only True Friend.”
Producer Don Was and Allman’s longtime musical director Scott Sharrard spoke to Relix about the record and album, where Sharrard, who co-wrote the song, explained that it was very personal to Allman. “It had been a long time since he had written a song from such a personal perspective,” Sharrard said. “In such a vulnerable state. It was very difficult for him to perform ‘My Only True Friend’ live because of how personal it was at the time–and to get it polished to the point where he was confident enough with it. I’m thankful that he got the lyrics and the changes and everything dialed into the point where he really loved the song before he passed away.”
