The Miles of Music Island Camp will return to New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee on June 11-17. The camp brings together 120 creative folks who explore how to bridge folk traditions and modern songwriting. It is run by renowned Americana artists Kristin Andreassen and Laura Cortese, and today we share a performance video featuring Andreassen and the Stray Birds, recorded last year.

Andreassen reflects, “I wrote this song the day before camp started. I wanted a song built for dancing, and I was inspired to take some of the patter I use in my other life as a square dance caller. The verses of the song build a story that ends up turning the square dance calls into a kind of metaphor for a relationship. With some help from my friend Maya de Vitry of The Stray Birds and some stiff cocktails one late afternoon at camp, I finished up the song and made the video with The Stray Birds a few hours later!”
