Johnny Depp’s portrayal as mobster Whitey Bulger in the upcoming Black Mass will surely earn him some Oscar buzz, but last night the actor was purely focused on rock and roll as he joined Duff McKagan, Alice Cooper, Matt Sorum and Joe Perry as a part of Hollywood Vampires, who made their debut at The Roxy in Los Angeles. The greatest hits set featured appearances from just about everyone who happened to be in town at that point including Geezer Butler, Tom Morello, Ke$ha, Perry Farrell, The Who’s Zak Starkey and more. 

The show opened with one of the band’s originals, written by Alice Cooper and Depp, “Raise the Dead.” From there, the group launched into a greatest hits set to the intimate crowd which included The Who’s “My Generation,” The Doors’ “Break on Through (To the Other Side” and more. Tom Morello and Geezer Butler joined in for “Manic Depression” while Perry Farrell took lead vocals on “Jump Into the Fire.” Ke$ha boldly played the role of Robert Plant on “Whole Lotta Love” and all came out for tunes like “School’s Out” and “Another Brick in the Wall.”

Hollywood Vampires’ debut, self-titled album is just as star-studded as their first show was last night, featuring appearances from Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Slash, Robby Krieger and Brian Johnson.
