The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers celebrated its 100th anniversary today. To celebrate, the group put together a short film entitled “Why We Create Music,” highlighting the organization’s 100 year history by providing a behind the scenes look into the creative process of today’s top songwriters and composers. Watch the full film below as well as select artists reflecting on 100 years of the ASCAP. ASCAP has also released a Spotify playlist featuring 100 songs from the last 100 years, featuring the top song from each year. Notable selections include Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” The Temptations love tune “My Girl” as well as contributions from the Jackson 5, Rod Stewart, Billy Joel, The Eagles, REO Speedwagon and more as well as contemporary artists Green Day, The Fray and Bruno Mars.
