After canceling his summer tour with Crazy Horse, citing, “My body told me to not do it,” Neil Young announced his initial return to the stage after taking the season to rest. The Canadian musician will continue his charitable legacy with Painted Turtle and The Bridge School by participating in an afternoon benefit concert, dubbed “Harvest Moon” on October 5 at the former’s camp location in Lake Hughes, Calif., 50 minutes from The Getty in Los Angeles.
The intimate musical occasion, seemingly pulling its name from Young’s 1992 album, will also feature the artist’s former bandmate, Stephen Stills, performing his own independent music set, following an opening display from the marimba ensemble Masanga. In addition to the aforementioned musical entertainment, more names will be added to the charity event bill prior to its early October onset.
The special event is designed to emulate the daytime feel of a festival landscape, with family-focused activities, food trucks and other offerings to complete the experience. Furthermore, all proceeds from the occasion will support The Painted Turtle’s mission to provide kids with significant medical conditions the opportunity to take part in free camp access year-round, while The Bridge School focuses its efforts on educational services for children with physical and speech disabilities.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the community to Harvest Moon at The Painted Turtle,” said April Tani, Executive Director of The Painted Turtle. “This event not only brings together amazing musicians and families but also raises vital funds for two organizations committed to changing lives. It’s a day of music, fun, and philanthropy—what could be better?”
Young has been a longtime supporter of The Bridge School. His charitable efforts extend back to the mid-1980s and are linked to a festival legacy that ran through 2016, with annual gatherings occurring every October in Mountain View, Calif. Subsequently, beginning in 2021, Young began delivering his benefit concerts via NYA, starting with his first ever 1986 stand. All proceeds benefited the aforementioned cause.
Tickets will be available online starting September 6 at www.harvestmoongathering.com.
