Jack White has shared a taste of his forthcoming album, Entering Heaven Alive, due out on July 22 via Third Man Records. Entering Heaven Alive follows the April 8 release of its companion album, Fear Of The Dawn. The latest single, “If I Die Tomorrow” has been released alongside a jarring new video directed by Brantley Gutierrez. The video dropped this morning and can be viewed now on YouTube.
The video opens on a whitewashed western landscape with only the sounds of whipping winds amongst the barren natural landscape. As the music begins, the camera focuses on White’s feet as they are shown moving in tangent with a wooden casket, which he pulls behind him.
Sinister skeletons, a nymph strumming a harp with masked dancing children, and the continuation of White’s movement through the strange land engulf the viewing experience, which is capped by the musician’s hallow lyrics: “If I die tomorrow/ Could you find it in your heart to sing/ If my mother cries in sorrow? Will it help her with the many things.”
Throughout the music video, White’s signature blue can be seen—touches of cold brilliance against mystic gray, further pulling the song’s emotions into ocular reality.
In addition, White and his label Third Man Records have revealed limited edition vinyl variants of Entering Heaven Alive, which are available for pre-order now.
