Jerry Garcia Feature Film Announced

Earlier this week the Jambands.com blog, The Loop, shared the news that actress Amy Adams will appear as Janis Joplin in a feature film about the musician. Today Variety is reporting that a Jerry Garcia film is moving forward. Amir Bar-Lev, director of the documentaries My Kid Could Paint That and The Tillman Story has signed on to helm the project. The film will written by Topper Lilien (whose last credited film was Dungeons & Dragons in 2000…um, yikes?). The better news is that the script is based in part on Robert Greenfield’s Dark Star, which is an oral history of the guitarist. Reportedly, the as-yet-unnamed film will focus on the early years of Garcia’s life, culminating in the moment when he joins The Warlocks, soon to be The Grateful Dead.
The question of course, is who should play Garcia? Why not weigh in with your thoughts below (and/or head over to the Jambands.com blog to do so).
