The Bamboozle—the annual three-day music festival—kicks off later this month on the beach and boardwalk in North Beach Asbury Park, NJ. Taking place May 18-20, the festival will once again host a wide range of acts from multiple genres including headliners Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, Skrillex, Incubus, Brand New, and The Gaslight Anthem. In addition to the regular scheduled perormances, the festival will also host a number of after-parties with artists ranging from Skrillex, DJ Pauly D, Big Freedia and a special performance by alt-rock veterans Fishbone.

Since the group’s inception in 1979, Fishbone has straddled the line between multiple genres—including punk, ska, jam, funk, hard rock and soul—earning them the eclectic label that has come to define their sound. With multiple festival stops on their upcoming tour and unique billings with bands like Primus, Fishbone has the ability to fit onto nearly any lineup.

‘We enjoy a very privileged position of being able to float freely,’ says Fishbone frontman John Norwood Fisher.  ‘But the thing is, we’re players and we do jam. A lot of our music comes from the fact that we’re a real band that gets together and we explore music together and jam.’

This year’s Bamboozle will also host a screening of Fishbone’s recent documentary Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone. For four years, the filmmakers followed the band, documenting their time on the road as well as providing outside interviews about their influence on the music scene over the last 25 years.

’It’s a glimpse of the Fishbone experience,’ says Fisher. ’It’s a little look back with lots of interviews from people who were integral in our lives—band members past and present, interviews with people like George Clinton, Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Les Claypool, Tim Robbins, Mike Watt, Keith Morris from the Circle Jerks and Off! and a whole lot more. You actually get the passion we have for music and the love for art and the love that we have each other.’
