A Billion Acts for Earth Day

The very first Earth Day, took place 41 years ago on April 22, 1970. The Earth Day Network emerged from that event and now “works with over 22,000 partners in 192 countries to broaden, diversify and mobilize the environmental movement.” On Earth Day 2011 the organization is focusing on its ‘A Billion Acts of Green’ initiative. The goal is to amass one billion registered actions before the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As the EDN explains, “With its easy-to-use online registration tool, any individual or organization can register an Act of Green, from Earth Day events and community climate meetings to tree plantings, large-scale light bulb changes and workplace renewable energy retrofits. Simple individual gestures like riding a bike instead of driving and washing laundry in cold water may also be recorded.” Numerous musicians and misc lovers are participating by greening their concert experiences, with the full details at the Billion Acts of Green website.
