Atlantic/Southern Ground

To call the Zac Brown Band a Southern rock band – or even country rock – is to pigeonhole this seven piece Georgia outfit. This group clearly owes as much to The Band as to the Allman Brothers, and like those bands, ZBB also presents a full sound around vintage organ fills, driving percussion, thundering basslines and bluesy guitar licks. But the band doesn’t stop there, adding some New Orleans groove via a Trombone Shorty cameo, kicking up their old school country heels, dabbling in reggae and throwing down some tear-jerker ballads. What’s unmistakable is that the band – after extensive touring – is in a tighter and more cohesive frame of mind than on previous releases – and undoubtedly having one hell of a good time making music.
