Trevor Garrod : Miss Fortune

Mt. Eden Music
Given that Tea Leaf Green keyboardist and songwriter Trevor Garrod named his first solo album Miss Fortune, it makes sense that the theme of misfortune runs through the dour circumstances of these songs. While TLG has moved toward a more rock-oriented sound, Miss Fortune explores serene, psychedelic, Cali-folk. Prevalent themes include the vast Pacific, as well as dark, turbulent and broken relationships. Opener “Blackbird on a Lonely Wire” finds the songwriter wishing for wings to “fly across the sea/ Till I found an unknown land/ Where no one’s heard of me.” A chorus of sirens back him on “The Edge of the World” – an analogy for safe passage after a failed relationship – while “Sunk” features Garrod on a harrowing harpsichord. Though Garrod’s voice is familiar, this is not a Tea Leaf Green album released under a different name.
