Terry Dolan: Terry Dolan
A remarkable blend of San Francisco and Rolling Stones-ish sensibilities, Terry Dolan was recorded in 1972 but disappeared when Warner Bros. declined to release it. The Connecticut-born singer-songwriter’s rocky debut features three swell guitarists in John Cipollina, Neal Schon and Greg Douglass. The music’s a rough-and-tumble mix of rollicking blues-rock and folk-rock balladry elevated by Nicky Hopkins’ spirited piano playing, the Pointer Sisters’ churchy backing vocals and Terry Dolan’s natural warmth. With Dolan, Hopkins and Cipollina currently swirling in the heavens, the album’s reappearance resembles a newly unearthed shoebox of dusty yet treasured photos of a bygone era.
