That Man Eats Morning For Breakfast is the curiously titled EP of 2008 demos from Surprise Me Mr. Davis. Never ones to be pigeonholed, the group – featuring singer/songwriter Nathan Moore and The Slip – moves effortlessly from the prog-rock of “Roses In Bottles” to the hard-hitting protest funk of “Sissyfuss” with ease and surprising cohesiveness. The group channels the spirit of the Irish on the drunken “I’m No Good At All” and embraces ‘60s pop on “Emily Green.” Moore longs for a love lost on the ballad “Joelle” before singing about the joys of life on the road on “Home Away From Home.” That Man Eats Morning For Breakfast is an indication of a band beginning to tap into its potential. Hopefully, the band will soon bless fans with a true album.
