Recorded in New Orleans, and surrounded by an all-star lineup of that legendary city’s best musicians, Let It Burn finds Ruthie Foster singing from the depths of a place that is rich and bountiful. The listener also feels the pull on the ear from the quartet of tunes with the Blind Boys of Alabama, and on her duet with William Bell ( “You Don’t Miss Your Water” ), while canvassing inspired covers written by Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo and Louie Perez ( “This Time” ), Robbie Robertson ( “It Makes No Difference” ) and David Crosby ( “Long Time Gone” ). Joined by George Porter, Jr. on bass, Ike Stubblefield on keyboards, Russell Batiste on drums, Dave Easley on pedal steel guitar and James Rivers on tenor sax, Foster inspires her NOLA vets with a blend of blues magic by way of her native Texas.
