Candygram for MoWo is a stylish, swaggering set that delivers an updated take on the sounds surrounding the Rat-Pack era. It brilliantly balances the overtly electronic element of Mocean Worker’s music with a sleek and sophisticated cinematic sound driven by flutes, keys and live instrumentation from guests like Charlie Hunter and Bill Frisell (who appear on the cinematic “Sho Nuff” ). The whole record is patiently paced, refined and sophisticated, exhibiting – at times – a David Holmes-like influence (Ocean’s 11 soundtrack) on cuts like “Jive Jive Jive.” Tracks like “Mel’s Torment” and “Hoot and Hollah” set the vibe, while “Say Yeah Yeah” and “Do Like You Like” kick the chairs out when offering an intoxicating elixir.
