Locobeach: Psychedelic Disco Cumbia

The Mexico-U.S.-Venezuela rhythmic coalition Locobeach play some of the twistiest Latin sounds around on Psychedelic Disco Cumbia (Dorsal Fin/Peace & Rhythm). While Los Amigos Invisibles guitarist José Luis Pardo and Chicha Libre keyboardist Joshua Camp composed these quirky, slightly surreal summertime sounds for all seasons, you may find yourself honing in on percussionists Neil Ochoa and Fernando Valladares’ dazzling polyrhythms. Locobeach gathers the tonal colors of countless tropical botanicals in tunes ranging from the Peruvian ‘80s funk of “Dream of the Bell Flower” to “Kakalapapanga,” a close relative to Los Amigos Invisibles’ invincible dance music.
