If your spirit animal happens to be a crow, tuna, crocodile or (best choice) octopus, then the indigenous Australian artist Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, who died last year at age 46, has you covered on his final album, Djarimirri: Child of the Rainbow. On it, traditional aboriginal chants are orchestrated—as performed by the Australian Chamber and Sydney Symphony orchestras—to sound like lush American minimalist works. Cellos and basses mimic didgeridoos, and the blind singer’s soulfully strident voice cuts through it all like a message from beyond.
