Elephant Revival: These Changing Skies

Sarah A. McCarty on October 10, 2013

On their fourth full-length album These Changing Skies, Elephant Revival find harmony. Bringing together five people with unique artistic ambitions—all who are songwriters, multi-instrumentalists and singers—sounds like a recipe for chaos. But, since forming in 2006, the ethereal folk quintet from Nederland, Colo., have managed to keep personal creativities from breeding dissonance. The group has grown even tighter, producing their most cohesive album yet. The floating melodies throughout the album and Celtic-heavy instrumental tracks meld into some of their more pensive songs. Each member pulls from a different inspiration—whether that’s struggling to make sense of tragic events such as the Sandy Hook shooting (“Over Over And”) or looking at the power of people in social movements (“The Obvious”)—to produce an album about finding your place in this ever-changing world.
