Dead Boots: Veronica

Raw, bluesy, loose and gritty in the manner of The Rolling Stones with the southern edge of The Black Crowes and Cheap Trick’s arena rock panache, Dead Boots is a throwback to the days of full-throttle, anything goes rock and roll – with a few twists. The Los Angeles group – previously known as TAB the Band – won’t be held to a simple formula, also harnessing T. Rex-style glam, mid-
‘70s power pop, psych and garage for a captivatingly rowdy sound. Fronted by brothers Adrian and Tony Perry, “Wrecking Ball” is a rumble down a bumpy dirt road, while the acoustic-driven “Lonely One” is the peaceful swimming hole at the end of that road. It’s the quietest number on an album that otherwise wants to be appropriately loud – and it should be.
