This double-disc release from Philadelphia’s Brothers Past celebrates the indie electronica act’s expansive ten year career with a selection of eighteen songs – five of which have been previously unreleased to the public. The album soars with pristine sound quality and shows tremendous improvement in production since their last release, 2005’s Jammy-nominated This Feeling’s Called Goodbye. The album kicks off with the live favorite “Who’s Gonna Love Me Now?” which seems to end abruptly before the usual middle jam portion in favor of a flawless segue into the Kid A era Radiohead inspired “Machine.” The album’s highlight and longest track, the nine-minute “Bitches and Candy,” features a haunting, yet subtle acoustic guitar introduction before slowly morphing into a rapid-fire drums-and-bass jam reminiscent of bassist Clay Parnell’s side project Biodiesel. The reggae-tinged “Into the Sun” is another peak moment, starting off as a blissful downtempo track before dropping into intense blues guitar, piano solos and a reemergence of the opening lyrics. Everything Must Go 0111 might disappoint hardcore BP fans due to the lack of new material, however, the end result proves why the band members are some of the best songwriters in the livetronica genre.
