Angel Bat Dawid: The Oracle

Composer Angel Bat Dawid studied music at the Moody Bible Institute before transferring to Roosevelt University and previously worked at Hyde Park Records in Chicago. But all that’s in the past as she’s now a key member of the city’s robust jazz avant-garde scene. She recorded her debut album, The Oracle, with her phone on three continents. Dawid catches a casually powerful cosmic wave on tracks featuring overdubbed clarinet, piano and voice. Tracks like “What Shall I Tell My Children Who Are Black?” and “We Are Starzz” interrogate and sooth listeners simultaneously.
