Air: Le Voyage Dans La Lune

Astralwerks
Back in 1902, French filmdirector Georges Méliès released the silent classic Le Voyage Dans La Lune (A Trip to the Moon). Now, more than a century later, French ambient music artists Air have composed a new score for the work, which significantly surpasses the 16-minute film in length. In some respects, the music, which will be accompanied by a new hand-colored version of the film, reflects a specific aesthetic – the sung and spoken elements directly relate to the idea of space travel – but it is ultimately an Air album. Au Revoir Simone and Beach House’s Victoria Legrand appear on tracks – the musician’s bizarrely compelling sonic landscape bolster the ethereal vocals. But in the end, the cohesion of sound and visual is less in corresponding tone and more in the overall whimsical eccentricity both embrace.
