10 Ft. Ganja Plant: Skycatcher

10 Ft. Ganja Plant’s latest studio album opens with a traditional reggae bassline, echoing drums and backing synths to kick off the atmospheric tone that resonates through the whole record. Most tracks accent instruments with echoing synths, a continuous snare drum or the waves of electric guitar licks, but
this doesn’t overshadow the various instruments or vocals used in each song. The 10 tracks are pushed along by speaker-rattling basslines that are joined by a collection of horns, a light guitar that phases in and out, and three different (but all very reggae) vocalists. Unique pieces like the saxophone and trumpet on “Sounding Zone” or the harmonica jam on the title track cut through the smoke and keep the album from being one hazy blur of a head-bobbing daze.
