A Big-Hearted Rock Stew

The Weeks’ breakout album, Dear Bo Jackson, is a big-hearted rock stew – a delicious blend of Southern rock riffs, soulful horns and punk attitude. But when asked about his band’s influences, guitarist Sam Williams points outside of music – to the legendary multi-sport athlete who inspired the title of their new album. “Whatever [Bo Jackson] wanted to do, he did it, and he did it well,” Williams says. “We love so many different types of music and want to have the same type of attitude as Bo. We write what we hear in our heads and have no reservations about style.” The Mississippi-born quintet recorded their latest LP in Nashville, relocating to the famed music town after signing with Kings of Leon’s Serpents & Snakes Records. But even though The Weeks may suddenly have famous friends, Dear Bo Jackson is the sound of a band easing gracefully into a style all their own. “We really tried to convey everything we’ve learned and experienced since moving to Nashville and touring harder than we ever had before,” says vocalist Cyle Barnes. “I feel like with all of that, we succeeded in making the truest Weeks record to date.”
