Virginia is the birthplace of many iconic music acts from Patsy Cline to the Dave Matthews Band. The Northerners, out of Richmond, are hoping to be added to this list of great musicians. The relatively young band came together in August. Brother and sister, Justin and Ally Khoury, have been performing together for years but then made the decision to add other talented musicians to become a full band. The other members include Anderson Gould on lead guitar, George Gilliam on drums and Taylor Laub who plays the bass. The Northerners have a rock and roll sound with some folk and indie music thrown in. They enjoy performing original music, such as their fans’ favorite, “Valerie,” as well as covers of Jack White and The Band. Drummer, George Gilliam explains the bands influences. “I would say The Band and Bob Dylan are big influences for all of us. Our female lead singer has been compared to Janis Joplin.” They enjoy playing venues in the Virginia area but hoping to start introducing their music to more fans. “So far we’ve made a splash in the blooming Richmond scene relatively quickly, and we’re hoping we can keep this momentum up and continue to grow a fan base and start playing more shows on the road” said Gilliam. They have a tentative EP release date for January 1st, 2013. You can also find out more information and watch their performances on Facebook.
