While “Sonic Boomtronica” might not be a genre you’re familiar with, Rochester, N.Y-based duo The Manhattan Project have been making explosions in the electronic scene since 2010. The group fuses together drums and bass, heavy synth lines and pulsating beats to create a sound that has gained them widespread recognition on dance floors throughout the country and at big-name festivals such as Camp Bisco, Summer Dance, and Rootwire. Last year, they had the opportunity to open for the Disco Biscuits’ offshoot Conspirator and keyboardist Aron Magner enjoyed them so much that he decided to become their manager. “They’ve really helped open a lot of doors for us that we wouldn’t have been able to otherwise,” says drummer Shawn Drogan. “It’s a great team to have and we couldn’t be more excited to see where it will go.” The band recently released Atomic Bomb Party Vol. 2, a funky, high-energy EP that will have listeners jumping out of their seats and throwing four on the floor. “There’s nothing like moving a room full of people,” Drogan adds. “It’s great being able to connect on a different level and look out and see everyone dancing and having fun.” The Manhattan Project will perform at City Bisco this fall and will release their third album shortly afterward.
