Tim Presley has released “Unread Books,” the second preview single from his long-awaited eighth White Fence solo studio album, Orange. Set to release on April 24 via Drag City, the psych-pop agitator’s first offering since 2019’s I Have to Feed Larry’s Hawk plants his familiar strain of acid-washed small wonders and magic tricks in sweet, heartfelt songs produced by longtime collaborator Ty Segall.

Where the lead single, “Your Eyes,” reintroduced the long-dormant White Fence moniker with shaggy, sun-kissed strut, “Unread Books” hangs its head a little lower. Over meandering synth lines from Alice Sandahl and a hesitant, percussive shuffle from Dylan Hadley, Presley sounds wistful and bewildered as he lists off a fractalized character sketch of the object of his desire. At the song’s final refrain, he sings, “No one changes their heart/ Their heart/ Like you do/ No one changes their mind/ Their mind/ Like you do.”

Presley described Orange obliquely in a press release:

“Love/loss, addiction/rehabilitation, and a good long look in the mirror (by way of a shop window reflection in San Francisco).

But also the absurdity of life….. I wanted to sing my little heart out. Sing life.”

Orange is available to pre-order and pre-save now. Listen to “Unread Books” below and read on for the album’s full tracklist.
