The Hold Steady brought their holiday run to the Brooklyn Bowl, kicking off four nights at the venue with a series of surprise openers. Last night's opener arrived in the form of Patterson Hood, the lead man of Drive-By Truckers and, as Craig Finn mentioned, one of the band's "living heroes."
Hood and The Hold Steady came together to pay homage to a fallen hero, a cover of AC/DC's Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap blues rocker "Ride On" to kick off their encore in memory of the late Malcolm Young.
