Watch: Pete Townshend Joins Martha Wainwright on “Both Sides Now” in London

Last week, Canadian-American singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright kicked off a UK tour at London’s Cadogan Hall. During the performance, which drew from her new book Stories I Might Regret Telling You and album Love Will Be Reborn, the Who’s Pete Townshend rose from the audience to join her on stage for the final two songs of her set.

As the daughter of folk legends Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III and sister to Rufus Wainwright, Martha grew up surrounded by legends like Leonard Cohen, Anna McGarrigle, Richard and Linda Thompson, Townshend, Emmylou Harris and more.

The two covered Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” which was followed up by Wainwright’s own sing “Factory,” off her self-titled debut album – which was released in 2005. The latter track Wainwright and Townshend performed two times prior, once in 2006 and once in 2007.
